The Secrets to Getting More Value From Each Printer Cartridge

The printer cartridge states the number of pages that can be printed with the unit. However, long before you reach the maximum number of page prints, the low-ink alert comes on. It can be frustrating, but knowing how to get more value from your printer cartridges can help you to reach the maximum number of pages with every unit you install. Here is how:

A Font Makes A Difference

Choose an economical font. As good as Arial looks on the screen, it is an ink-heavy font. Times New Roman may not seem all that clean, but it is surprisingly ink efficient and so is Calibri. Set a policy in your office for the printing of documents to default to one of the ink-efficient fonts. This will help to reduce the cost of ink. Also consider changing the font size to 10 rather than using 11 or 12. This can help you save on paper costs.

Fat and bold fonts use more ink and are not all that easy to read. Streamline to the elegant ones, which are easier to read and less likely to make a huge dip in the ink tank. Courier and Century Gothic are also ink-efficient fonts. Garamond is a smaller font, which also translates to ink savings. However, with its small size, the font is not easy to read.

Go Slow On Bold Text

Do you have employees who love using bold for just about everything? Set a policy for styles to use bold only for headings and sub-headings in text. Though the difference in ink usage is slight, it can help you to get the maximum value from every printer cartridge.

Preview Helps To Reduce Reprints

Do not allow employees to misuse company resources. The print preview mode is included in most software options for a reason. The mistakes in layout can be fixed before print jobs are scheduled.

Edit Grammar And Spelling Before Prints

With so many amazing spell and grammar checker software solutions available, do not allow employees to print pages for hard-copy editing unless they have already completed full editing on the computer.

Draft Rather Than Immediate Print

If the employee has to check a document before final print and thus really needs to perform a paper-based edit, then let it be on draft. Indeed, draft or economy mode is perfect for any straightforward text documents that are printed for in-house records.

Presentations And Handouts

Rather than printing out the background on PowerPoint or Publisher presentations, let the employees use the handout functionality. In this way, they can print out four to six slides without backgrounds for handouts, ensuring every printer cartridge can provide value for money.

Print to PDF

Set your printers to default to PDF for printing from online sources. Web pages have many unnecessary images, such as ads. When printing to PDF, the files can be stored, shared, and emailed directly from the printer. This helps to reduce unnecessary printing.

Print Codes

Make use of our multifunctional printers and software solutions to monitor printing. Also set the units according to print authorisation. We offer several ways to control who prints what and how many pages. By reducing printing for personal usage in the office, you can get the true value of every cartridge.

Laser Is Best For Large Volume Printing

Set printing to default to the laser printers for large volume printing. Only allow the printing of images on the inkjet models. Inkjet is known for superior quality image printing, but when it comes to cost savings, the laser wins in terms of quantity.

Regularly Use The Printers

Perform print test-runs once weekly if your printers do not work that often to avoid drying out the print heads.

Use The Right Printer Cartridge And Paper

Several cartridge options are available to help you get more prints. Our consultants will help you choose the best cartridges for the particular types of print jobs to be performed.
