Earlier this year, some of the biggest high street retailers were forecasting profit warnings…and some household names  were really struggling to keep their customers and attract new ones. The people in the know said it was the the internet. Online shopping has killed the high street they say….and then it was announced that one of the biggest online companies ….ASOS …had issued a profit warning….so what is going on ?

We don’t have a physical shop, but we so have an office staffed with people sell stationery and who know about stationery and office supplies. They know their customers and if there is a problem or a query, they also know that they can pick up the phone and speak to a human being who is happy to chat and have a joke, but will still get their order  sent or changed or what ever else is needed. We also have a website and people know that if they are struggling to order, we will know and we can call them and talk them through the process…not everyone who shops online is tech savvy.

Maybe everyone has to up their game to attract shoppers. I don’t think  it is all about price. Shopping should be a great experience whether you are buying on line or on the high street. I love shopping at Selfridges in Birmingham, it is exciting…there is a House of Fraser closer but Selfridges have it going on. I go on line and there are loads of small indie sites that sell things that no one else has and I loving shopping there as well. I need to feel that shops are making an effort to attract and keep my custom, rather than the ” plenty more where she came from ” attitude.

This is just my opinion…I think people love the shopping on the high street as well as buying on line and I don’t think it is all about price, customers want to be excited and loved and needed – if you can make your customers feel like that you will be OK
